Kicking off our 2025 exhibition calander, Come Hang With Us Presents: Anne Smithies
“I am a multi-mixed media artist based in Sheffield. I predominantly create textiles, glass and printmaking artworks, art quilts, etc based on the play of colour and the natural world and creatures. The work is generally representative but not overtly realistic if portraying life forms. I enjoy creating textures and interaction between the subject and art forms, colour and shapes as well as the art and viewer.
My work can be described as eclectic, cheery, colour-filled and upbeat.
I began creating art and exploring many styles of creativity after losing my job through illness and have continued experimenting and learning over the past 30 years. I essentially self taught I tend to mix techniques and media to suit my end goal rather than having a purist approach or style. I have exhibited across Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Surrey and Wiltshire and owned and run a Gallery in the dales as well participating Sheffield’s Open Up.”
